Curtain it!
Before you hit the back button thinking, "I don't have a window in that wall" you can still use curtains to cover a bad wall. This is where floor to ceiling mural curtains come in.
You can get some pretty realistic and affordable curtain panels that you can simply hang right over that wall and at the same time personalize your room.
✅1. Curtains to Cover Walls
This is a quick and easy way to cover that wall. Think of it as massive art. If the wall you are trying to hide is pretty bad and you don't have the budget to get into ripping it down and doing some messy DIY, then consider a beautiful set of mural curtains!
Measure the Wall You Need to Cover or at least the worst bit or simply to break up a massive wall, then look for the measurements that would fit your room best.
The curtains panels I am showing here are all under 60 bucks and would not only hide a bad wall without paint or DIY but add to your decor. Instead of trying to hide the wall make it a focal point.
✅2. Make the Bad Wall a Focal Point - Create an Art Wall with Framed Fabrics or Wallpaper
If you are not a fan of the curtain panels, there are still options.
Head to the Thrift Store and purchase large old picture frames with the glass still intact. Next head to the fabric store and check out their scrap bins or the DIY store and wallpaper that is on sale or last rolls tend to go for cheap. Check out the video below to get you started. They use new frames but you get original and use old frames from the thrift store.
✅3. Cover a Canvas for Quick Wall Art
You can take a canvas and cover it with fabric and create a wall of same size canvas art, or you can purchase stretcher bars to create a much larger frame as in the video below.
You don't have to have new canvas's, you could actually get some pre-painted ones from the dollar store and cover them and staple the fabric to the canvas frame on the back to create some instant 3D art panels that will definitely take your eye away from the bad wall.
The 5 pack of canvas is under 25 bucks, so you can make quite the wall for very little cash. Of course if you are crafty you can create your own artwork.
✅4. Pallet Wood for a More Rustic Look
You could try something a little more rustic with pallet wood. You can go and find your own pallets usually in industrial areas or even the hardware stores will give them to you. Be careful as they are rough wood and you can get splinters. Take them apart and paint signs, or quotes or something inspirational, but I also found pallet signs all ready to go online.
These could definitely hide bad walls without paint. If you are careful with hook placement or use the 3M hooks that do not leave any marks (even though the wall is already bad your landlord may not like additional hook holes).
✅5. Removable Murals
You can get some pretty awesome pictures in the form of a peel and stick mural online. I came across this one vendor with loads of really cool looking murals such as the one pictured below. Click on the picture to see more ideas.
It all depends on how pitted and beat up the bad wall is. If it simply some ugly wallpaper you could stick this mural right over top, or a bad color of wall or slight imperfections as these murals are thicker, so they will cover most imperfections. I absolutely love these penguins!
As a landlord, using a strippable wallpaper is an affordable way to cover a bad wall too.
Get Creative on the Cheap
I hope the above 5 ideas have inspired you to find a way to cover and hide bad walls without paint or much DIY. If you are a renter, don't just put up starring at a bad wall, do something creative! Most landlords will allow picture hooks in the wall but if they don't there are ways around that too.
That is the beauty of using the canvas panels as they are lightweight, but you can get heavy duty hooks that won't damage the walls.
Basically if you are a renter, you could turn a bad wall into a personalize work of wonder and then when you move it would be like you were never there!
They same goes for the strippable wallpaper for renters or anyone who wants to quickly cover that ugly wall.
So don't put up with it, get creative with some of the above ideas, do some online shopping as I found a larger variety of ideas online and quickly cover that wall with something that you love and make your place your own.
You may never need to tackle that wall or do any DIY at all if you love what you create. Enjoy your room and save money!
