Best Tasting Decaf Coffee - From a Former Caffeine Addict!

After experiencing a health scare due to high blood pressure, I was instantly forced to come away from my beloved caffeine!  Caffeine will aggravate blood pressure and many other issues, so I had to join the ranks of the decaffeinated or nothing crowd.

Enough of my whining!  On my quest, I tried many... Below are the best tasting decaf coffees (in my opinion of course!) in pod or k cup form for home brewing.  Top 3.

✅NUMBER 1 - THE WINNER! - STARBUCKS

Starbucks by far has the best tasting decaf coffee! It is not bitter, and although I prefer the pike Place (pictured above) you can get it in different roasts, such as decaf dark roast or medium roast. Click the picture and check it out for yourself.  Top of my list for flavour! The taste is wonderful.

✅NUMBER 2 - 2ND PLACE - TIM HORTONS

Living in Canada, I do find there are more Tim Horton coffee shops around than Starbucks, but these pods can be ordered online and it tastes good too. Not quite as flavourful as the Starbucks, but a good second!  Very mellow, not bold.  If you prefer a smooth tasting coffee, this is it.

✅NUMBER 3 - 3RD PLACE - McDONALDS

If you are a lover of McDonald's regular coffee you will find that the decaf is slightly more bitter. I have to add more cream to it than normal to make it taste the best. My opinions of course!

Best Instant Decaf Coffee

If you don't use a cup or pod machine, you can get the coffees online to brew in your own coffee machine to make many pots, but if you prefer to make a quick cup of instant coffee by boiling the kettle. Here are a couple of great choices. Both can be purchased online.

✅NUMBER 1 - Starbucks Instant Decaf Coffee

This has 50 individual packets, making it easy to take to work or wherever you can get boiling water.

✅NUMBER 2 - Maxwell House Decaf Coffee - Instant

If you like to purchase your coffee in the grocery store, and they have a limited selection of decaffeinated instant coffees, this brand is very common, and I personally will drink this too. It has a nice body and not too bitter, but I do need to add lots of milk or cream.

Create Gorgeous Latte's From the Decaf Instant Coffees

If you are like me and have been forced or by your own choice off of caffeine.  It is nice to spice it up a bit.  Lately I have been enjoying creating homemade latte's by simply heating up a cup of milk of your choice (regular milk is what I use, but almond and soy milk work too) and adding a spoonful of the coffee.

Make sure the milk is hot enough so that the instant coffee dissolves and it fills me up like a snack.

Roast Coffees for Typical Brewing Machines

If you prefer to have a full pot of coffee ready at any time, you can also get the top 3 coffees (top of page) in roasted bags.  It is definitely a nice change from the grocery store brands, ans many grocery stores do not cater a whole lot to the decaf section.

Why I had to Cut out Caffeine?

If you made it to this part of the page here, you get to hear my story. ...

One winter's day a year ago, my head was pounding which I assumed was because I had not had my morning coffee yet, but as the morning progressed, my left side became tingly and almost numb, like pins and needles and heavy feeling.

I was in a foul mood, and my head pounded, and my ears were buzzing.  I assumed some kind of flu, but my hubby disagreed and took me to the hospital, to find out my blood pressure was 205/119!

I was diagnoised with a TIA which really means "mini stroke".  I was given medicine right away and brought it down and my limbs felt better and so did the rest of me.

I was lucky

I was sent home with 2 prescriptions to keep my blood pressure down and to get caffeine, salt and sugar out of my life.  Funny I have never been big on salt, and had been watching my weight so no real sugar issues, but caffeine, yes, I missed. A million years ago, I tried decaf and it was horrible.

Fast forward to today and Decaf coffee has come a long way.

I quickly realized I was not alone with this.  In fact almost all of the coffee shops have had to offer some kind of decaf coffees and teas or lose customers.   Obviously the more people need this type of product the better they are made.  They use all kinds of different processes to get the best tasting decaf coffee, but like anything else, you have to like it!

Hope you will treat yourself to some of the best decaf coffees on the market.  Being able to shop online makes it even easier, as I have found the grocery stores do not stock a lot of variety when it comes to decaf coffees.  ENJOY!
