Transform a Rental Kitchen with Just 3 Removable Products

If you are renting and your kitchen has seen better days, or maybe you own your home but have no money for renovations, then check out these ideas!

As someone who has been on both sides as a tenant and a landlord, I was amazed at the products on the market that can transform a kitchen but be removed quickly without damage at all!

If you want to put your own personal stamp on your kitchen without damage, then check this out!

Cover the back splash, counter top and floor for an instant uplift.  It is like a different kitchen!

You don't even have to use all these ideas.  Just one of these would make a huge difference.  All you need to do is make sure the area is clean and then cut, peel and stick.

Some landlords are not that great at keeping things nice, but at the same time they don't want you to do any permanent DIY.  I wish I had come across these products especially the counter top idea when I was renting.  The counter in my rental had literally worn and looked ugly.

I sourced many of these products from the video online for a good price.

Smart Tiles for Back Splash

The Decorative Peel and Stick Counter Top If you want to also do the floors you can get peel and stick to cover existing. Moonwall Stickers have a ton of different designs to choose from. They are peel and stick and durable.

The products on the market are super durable and have that 3D look to give them depth and some realism, as if they were real ceramic tiles.

Did You Get an Ugly Refrigerator in your Rental?

Some rentals include appliances, and many refrigerators have seen better days.  You can paint them with appliance paint but that can be messy, permanent and stinky.  I came across these fridge stickers that can literally make your refrigerator front and center and definitely a conversation piece!

There are so many creative ways to decorate your rental kitchen and put your own personal stamp and flare on it. Make yours bright and clean and you will enjoy hanging out in the kitchen!

Kitchen Cabinets

If you update the back splash, counter and floors and are left with pretty ugly cabinets, and you are willing to go the extra mile to cover them, you can transform them instantly with this removable peel and stick faux wood.

I thought this made for awesome shabby chic!

You can totally update your kitchen on the cheap and it will look awesome. This is not just for rental kitchens. This is an awesome way to temporarily update your present kitchen until you can afford to do the renovation.

Why live with an ugly kitchen?

It is the heart of any home.  To enter a nice fixed up kitchen first thing in the morning can make your day that much brighter, especially if you are going to be living here for a while.

If you are not a fan of painting or DIYs, then by using removable products you are not causing any harm.  There is no mess, spilled paint, special equipment or smells.

You may find the landlord will want you to leave it!

DIY Mugs with Nail Polish and Sharpies - Super Cool

I came across this DIY craft and thought what a super cool idea!

If you have any old bottles of nail polish hanging around then try this project!  The secret ingredient is Modge Podge Dishwasher Safe Sealer.

What you will Need:

Check out the video by CharlieMarieTV to create DIY customized mugs for yourself or for gifts.

Get Creative with Colors and Words!

In this video she transfers words to the mug by tracing them.  You can do this or do it free hand.  The marbling effect of the nail polish really makes each mug unique and customized.

She bakes the finished mug creations in a low oven to seal the designs in.

She then coats the design areas with the modge podge dishwasher safe sealer.

Note:  On the bottle it says "top rack only" if you use the dishwasher.

I personally like to hand wash any decorated mug.  But the sealer will give it that extra protection.

Mugs with Saying are all the Rage Right Now

You can create your very own mugs at home much cheaper.

The nail polish looks like watercolor effects when completed.  You could create psychedelic designs and have fun.  You could also pick up bright colors of nail polish from the Dollar Tree if you want some bright colors on the cheap.

You can get the plain white mugs online in bulk for a good price.  If you gave everyone a customized mug for a gift you could save a lot of money and create keepsakes at the same time.

They will think of you every time they have their coffee!

After researching this project, I didn't realize you could get this Modge Podge is a dishwasher safe version. Good to know!

So, if you want to add color to your own mug tree, or you want to give one as a gift, then try it, I am going to give this a go today!  Perfect way to use up nail polish.

How to Butter Corn on the Cob - No Mess

Corn on the cob is a staple come summer time and there are so many awesome ways to cook it.

Whether you boil it, barby, or bake, it smells and tastes great, especially with the addition of butter.  But if you are getting tired of the corn threads stuck in your butter as guests roll the corn on the cob, then check out these two options that both work.

With this special spreader, you simply slice butter and then spread it. It matches the contour of the cob, so less dripping and falling off and it evenly coats the corn quickly.

There are many different gadgets on the market to combat this problem so there is less waste, but I thought this curved knife is a great idea.

DIY Butter Corn

This one works well if you are having a lot of people over and you want to make buttering the corn on the cob easy and quick will less waste and mess.

It doesn't always look so good but does the trick.

Step 1 - Find a large clean mouthed mason jar or large pickle jar.

Step 2 -  Fill with super hot water (from the kettle is best)  Not boiling but close.

Step 3 - Add a chopped stick of butter.

Method:

The melted butter will float on top.

With tongues, dip the cob into the jar and when you take it back out, it will be coated with a film of butter as it passes through the melted butter layer on the way back out.

It is actually the perfect amount.

This makes for a quicker moving line at the food buffet table!

The downside... doesn't look too pretty but definitely works.

A friend of mine taught me this trick as she was used to hosting large gatherings in the summer.  She would have two on the go.

Cute Butter Pot that Will Keep Butter Just Right

I also came across this really cute butter dish, that is designed to reflect the heat back out and keep your butter at just the right temperature.  You fill a bottom portion of it with cool water.

This would look awesome on any table.  You simply add cold water to the base of this crockery, and the crockery reflects the heat out.

I just thought it was the cutest piece!  It holds one stick of butter.

Hope everyone enjoys time with family and friends this barby season and hopefully the corn buttering ideas help.

Recycling Ideas - DIY Newspaper Lamp

I love recycling or re-purposing everyday items, so when I came across this super cool idea by using newspapers, I just had to share!

You could use newspapers, paper flyers, or even that pile of printer paper with the report on it that went sideways!  Don't throw it out, get creative by upcycling.

Check out this video on how to make a newspaper lamp.

Take this One Step Further by Adding Fairy Lights Instead of a Single Bulb.

Make smaller ones and hang them as string lights with tiny fairy lights.  The thing I like about the modern fairy lights or twinkle lights is that they don't get hot.  This way no worries about heat.

But check out the video to see how they use old newspapers, a balloon and some glue and water to create this shape.

Awesome activity to do while watching TV or your favorite movie.  Grab a TV tray and get rolling.

I personally think they would look awesome as a string of lights. You could simply use a smaller balloon and then string them on the wall with twinkle lights (as above).

The last step is important, so don't skip it.  You need to mix white glue with water, to make a thicker paste to brush over the coils.  This will seal them and harden them.  You would never believe they started out as newspaper.

Instead of mixing white glue and water, you can get a product called "Modge Podge" that will do an even better job and make them shiny or mat, your choice.

Hopefully this project inspires you to recycle that pile of newspapers into something useful! There are a ton of ideas out there but I thought something for home decor was a great place to start.

Once you have created this round coil shape, you could build anything!

Upcycle Cd Cases - Awesome Photo Cubes

If you, like me, have a lot of CDs, then chances are you also have a lot of CD cases.  Those clear plastic hinged containers the discs came in.

For easier storage my hubby stores his in CD album cases, which means you can store a lot of music in one album for road trips or simply to save room.  So now you have those clear cases left..

Upcycle CD Cases into Photo Cubes or Storage Containers

Check out this short video, and I bet you have a ton of pictures on your computer that you could quickly print off and add to this project.  In the video she uses the end result for storage of magazines and the controller.

You could take this one step further and make a picture tower.

*Create and glue the four CD cases as she does in the video, but instead of stopping there.. simply create a few more and then glue on top of each other.  They are all the same size, making this project easier.

*This would make cool photo art, and you can now display all those pictures from your phone or on your computer for everyone to see.

*Turn your art piece around to show off different pictures.

*Or.. completely close off the top and bottom and have a complete cube that you can turn over to any side.  Display this anywhere as a conversation piece and to personalize your space.

*Plant Holder - Simply create the four sides with pictures and sit over a small potted plant or small tissue box.  What a cute way to personalize a space.

*Spare Toilet Roll Holder - Create one for the bathroom shelf and place a spare roll of toilet paper inside.

Better CD Storage

If you are done with CD cases taking up room in your home, then consider getting an album such as this one that can hold 400 pieces.

Just think how much room you can save, especially if you are downsizing and are faced with paring down your music.

Downsizing?  Keep ALL Your Music!!

Those cases do take up a lot of room.  By using these specialty albums, you can see right away which music you want.  These cases are totally handy for road trips too.

Now you can Have Fun and Upcycle the Cd Cases!

Once you have organized your music into portable albums, you can now have fun with the cases.

So Don't Throw Out The Cases

Obviously pick the clearest ones, with no scratches, and then have fun.  You could create artistic storage or displays for every room in the house.

How to Clean Yellowed Pillows

When changing my bedding, I started to notice the "yellowing" on my pillows when I took off the pillow cases. It turns out it is ...
