If you are doing the same thing, then you know how great it feels to clear out junk, but at the same time be super careful of tossing valuables!
Over the years I have accumulated some Hallmark Ornaments, that I used more as trinkets than on the tree and I was tired of dusting them! Until I came across the fact that many of these accumulate value.
I came across this Hallmark keepsake guide and was shocked to realize there is a whole following of these ornaments and many are valuable! I have seen them being sold on Ebay and Amazon.
If you have any older ones that you have inherited or you are cleaning out an older relatives basement or house, don't throw away those Hallmark ornaments from the Christmas stash, some are holding a lot of value.
Keep Them as a Cherished Treasure for Yourself or Sell Them to a Collector
Many bring back a lot of memories, and those you should keep, but it doesn't hurt to see the value of them, and then maybe you won't leave them stashed away in some dusty old box. Many are very intricate and unique in their subject matter and styling.
I Try to Purchase One a Year for Friends and Relatives, and Little Ones!
They are the perfect gift when you don't know what to give people. A Hallmark keepsake that can be hung on the tree, sat on the mantle piece or more.
You could even give them the price guide to get them started on the road to collecting. You can get ones that represent hobbies in that person's life such as this truck.
We happen to have a Hallmark store in our local mall, but I have discovered tons of them online still for last year.
You can check out an entire page of really cute ones HERE It can be hard to find last years in the stores, but you can get them online.
So after my clean out of excess basement stuff, such as Christmas and Holiday decorations, I decided to keep the best ones. But I also am going to get this Hallmark Keepsake Guide to find out the value of any older ones.
Great Gift Idea for Any Time of The Year
These are not just for Christmas, although they do look cool on the tree, but you can get for other holidays and for new babies and more.
If you are stuck on just what to get someone for a birthday or holidays, then consider a collectible keepsake that is not too big, and doesn't take up much room, but is also an investment.
Collecting can be fun and it is much easier than collecting tea pots like I do!! Teapots take up too much room, I am leaning towards scouring the yard sales for these little guys and if nothing else my Christmas tree this year will be decked out in this precious little keepsake trinkets.
Happy hunting and collecting. It is fun and an excuse to hit the garage sales on a Saturday morning!
Be Armed with This Hallmark Keepsake Guide while you are poking at garage sales and thrift stores. You will get familiar with them quickly.
As many people downsize, like me and purge their houses of decades of stuff, there can be some awesome finds and treasures worth purchasing. Like the saying goes "one man's garbage is another man's treasure" Not sure if that is the exact wording but works for me!
I have taken many pieces of old furniture that were about to go to the dump, cleaned and painted them and turned around and sold them for a good profit. You can check out that post at HOW to PAINT FURNITURE
This Could Also Be a Little Extra Money Side Business
Collecting these keepsake ornaments and getting familiar with the prices, could also make you some extra money. Scour the neighborhoods for these little treasures and then find them in your collector book and see if the one you found is from the 70s, which seems to bring in the most money using this guide or one similar and then make sure they are in good shape, dust them and sell them online.
Check the Value of Things While You Sort and Clean
I decided that when sorting and clearing out any room, that there would be basically 3 piles formed. One for definite GARBAGE, One for definite DONATION and One to KEEP and/or check prices online for values.
You just never know if any of the things you are thinking of tossing are actually valuable treasures. So don't let it slow down your sorting and clearing day, just set them aside to check that night online or invest in a book such as this Ebay Price Guide to find out if it is worth selling.
This way your basement still gets cleaned out, and if these things you are not sure about turn out to be worthless then they can go in the appropriate pile. This is how I operate anyways!
