I figure even if I just add a couple of pieces as I can afford them, this lovely turquoise will definitely add some color especially to a white kitchen. So I am looking at pieces that can sit on the counter for all to see and will greet me first thing in the morning!
My gran for as long as I can remember had a turquoise blue bread bin and I always loved that color ever since. It is amazing just what you remember! I was a kid in the 60s so a lot of these retro colors were definitely in, turquoises, greens, oranges and more. Even the larger appliances for years were different colors.
My Wish List for the Larger Turquoise Small Appliances
The ones I have noted above are affordable right now. But these other ones ... well maybe as I can afford them, but here they are!
If you have the room in your kitchen, this type of appliance should sit out and look pretty. No more hiding them in cabinets never to be found again! If you are just starting out you could add this to your want list for family and friends to consider for a housewarming gift.
As I was leafing through a magazine I came across this picture of a white kitchen with this turquoise color accents. It was a rental apartment and the renter couldn't paint or do any DIY so they invested in retro kitchen small appliances in this turquoise color and added a deep white bookcase to the kitchen.
This added more room, shelf space and a place to show off these beauties!
Why hide them away. This way their counter remained empty, they just went to the bookshelf to get whatever piece they needed. I personally would have left the toaster and keurig coffee maker on the counter but it all depends on your space.
Storing Above the Cabinets
If you don't have the space in your cabinets but there is space above the cabinets between the top and the ceiling, you could store your colorful retro appliances up there. Especially the ones you don't need all the time.
Pick the ones you use the most and keep them handy.
If the Budgets Says No!
Then maybe just add a few pieces to your counter so you can enjoy a splash of nostalgia and color with a can for utensils or a ladle or a spoon rest!
Even little things will make a huge difference.
How to Make Your Own Utensil Tin
Find a large utensil tin at the dollar store or clean out a large tomato tin, and then head to the craft store and purchase some metal spray paint in a turquoise color or the color of your choice. Working outside spray the outside of the tin (don't paint the inside).
Let dry and decorate with stencils. This is a good way to totally personalize your space...
I love the DIY too, but after much research I have found that this utensil tins are affordable online especially after I consider the cost of the supplies.
I don't want to bore you or overwhelm you with another page of the gorgeous kitchen accessories I found online, but if you CLICK HERE you can see an entire page of them on AMAZON.
I found some in a local Home Sense but the variety online is huge. You can get everything from tea towels, cutlery, knives, cutting boards and more...
